We all know that the UK government and the police don’t look too kindly on people in Britain taking cannabis recreationally, but CBD is increasing in popularity all across the country. That’s led lots of consumers to ask the question – “is CBD legal in the UK?”
The short answer is yes.

What is CBD?

The hemp plant is filled with chemicals that are naturally enough called cannabinoids. The most famous of these chemicals is THC. That’s the chemical that’ll get you high if you smoke or eat weed recreationally (which we need to stress here, is still not legal).
But there’s another chemical cannabinoid that can be extracted from cannabis. This is called cannabidiol, which we shorten to CBD.

How is CBD Different from Illegal Cannabis?

Cannabis refers to the whole plant, and it’s full of the THC that gets you high. So it’s illegal. CBD a product made from cannabis, it won’t give you a high, and so it isn’t illegal.
It’s made by pressing the leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant, and it contains only a trace amount of THC. Instead, researchers suggest that this oil may reduce pain, lower blood pressure, and relieve a wide range of symptoms from anxiety to asthma. [source]

So, is CBD Legal in the UK?

In a nutshell, yes. As long as CBD contains less than 0.2% of the psychoactive chemical THC, you’re not going to get in any trouble for using it or buying it. If you sell CBD products there are a number of regulations you need to abide by. So it’s time to stop asking “is CBD legal in the UK” and time to start asking “is CBD for me?”
